ADDICTIONS

Part 2 of the Addictions series is now available right here on this page on the 'Blog Talk Radio' player box to your right. It was an interesting Biblical analysis on this subject. Did you know the word 'addicted' occurs one time in the Bible? And it shows that we're gonna be 'addicted' to something, so why not to God. Here's the verse:

"I beseech you brethren, (ye know the house of Stephanas, that it is the firstfruits of Achaia, and that they have ADDICTED themselves to the ministry of the saints)." (1 Corinthians 16:15).

With this in mind, 'addictions' in a negative term always focuses on SELF as opposed to being 'addicted' to God focuses on OTHERS.

Scriptural answers to 'Speaking in Tongues'

The following is my answer to an email I received from a dear friend today concerning the meaning behind 'tongue speaking.' Here's my answer:

Well, concerning the 'tongues' subject it's all about reading the whole context of the book of Acts (in the second chapter to be exact). The word 'speaking with other tongues' which is the actual phrase mentioned in Acts 2:4 means the same thing as speaking in a foreign language (such as Spanish, Russian, etc.) but they didn't have to go to school to learn it. They automatically knew how to speak in the person's language (or 'tongue') to give that person the Gospel. The miracle was to break the language barrier at a very critical moment. That moment was the day of Pentecost (verse 1) where according to verse 5, "there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven."

In other words, the Jews from different countries who only understood the language (or tongue) they lived at were gathered together in Jerusalem for Pentecost (a Jewish feast in the Old Testament) had to get the Gospel preached to them by the disciples who only knew either Hebrew or Greek. Look at Acts 2:6 about how they were amazed (or confounded) "because that EVERY MAN HEARD THEM SPEAK IN HIS OWN LANGUAGE." Continue to read for yourself in verses 7-12 in Acts 2 about the different language/tongue descriptions. This was important because the Gospel was to be preached to the Jew FIRST and then the Greek (or Gentiles or anyone else who wasn't born a Jew) according to Romans 1:16.

I think you may understand by now that many people are confused about the 'tongues' subject because they ignorantly think it was a state of 'spiritual ecstasy' or jibber and jabbering along. It was just a gift given to the apostles who had to get the Gospel to those with different languages and people don't know how to read the context of the Bible these days which leads to more confusion. And as a matter of fact, the apostle Paul made very clear that it was all for the purpose of UNDERSTANDING and not confusion. He says in 1 Corinthians 14:19, "Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue." (or a foreign language you don't understand).

I like to remind people who claim they are filled with the Spirit who get involved in the out-of-context practice of tongues that the fruits of the Spirit are listed in Galatians 5:22-23 and it doesn't involve 'speaking in tongues.' (But it does teach that we need to control the tongue we have..lol). Also understand that Acts was a 'bridge' book with a lot of transitions to bring in the full teachings of the New Testament by completing the writing of God's Word. The transition is over and the Word of God is now complete. People who build their church or religious denomination out of context in the book of Acts is like a person who builds a house on a bridge as opposed to solid ground. In other words, very dangerous!

Overcoming Depression (a Biblical remedy)

Here is a brief outline to help you cope with depression (the Biblical way). Before I share it with you, It's important that you have a relationship with God. This is only through Jesus Christ since He is the only mediator between God and man (1 Timothy 2:5). This outline is for Christians who have the Holy Spirit to help them cope with this issue. Christians still are not exempt from these issues while upon the earth. As I always say, we're not SINLESS but we're supposed to 'SIN....LESS.' Open your Bible to Psalm 77:

1. Cry out to God. He's not surprised how we feel and wants us to be honest. (verses 1-3)

2. Recall past blessings that God has done for you. You know you have gotten this far by His grace and He didn't lead you this far to forsake you. (verses 4-6)

3. Ask God some hard questions. (verses 7-9)

4. Choose to redirect your thoughts by His grace. (verses 10-12)

5. Magnify God to diminish your problems. His presence is manifested when we praise Him no matter how we feel. (verses 13-18) And on an interesting note, I know someone personally who overcame a spell of anxiety by having the wind blow in their face. I say this because these verses mention about God's actions in nature.

6. Trust God to be your deliverer and Him alone regardless of how 'unscientific' or 'unreasonable' it may sound. (verses 19-20)

What is 666?

The following is an answer to a question a dear Christian brother had concerning the number 666 in Revelation 13:18. You can read this response in the comment section under the 'Antichrist' blog, but I thought I would make it more visible here as a blog post. Here's my answer:

666 has been commonly interpreted as representing the 'Satanic Trinity' which happens to be found in Revelation 13 where the number is mentioned.

Of course the number 6 is used to describe being short of 7 (a number of being divine or complete). But the Satanic Trinity (being represented by three sixes) would be The Dragon (or Satan), The Beast (which refers to the unified kingdom of the Antichrist and also the Antichrist himself since God usually sees a king and a kingdom as one in the same), and the False Prophet (who will use religion and supernatural miracles to lead people to worship the Beast).

It's interesting to read Daniel 3:1 where Nebuchadnezzar (king of Babylon) had a golden image "whose height was threescore (sixty) cubits, and the breadth thereof six cubits." This is important because Revelation 13 also mentions about an image of the Beast to be worshiped and no doubt the image in Daniel was one of Nebuchadnezzar himself. I say this because history has a funny way of repeating the past (read Ecclesiastes 1:9).

Also, 1 Samuel 17:4 mentions about Goliath "whose height was SIX cubits and a span." He also had "SIX hundred shekels of iron" (verse 7). No matter how big the enemy is, God seems to use this number to remind them that they still fall short of his glory. This is the best so far I can answer from the Scriptures without overly speculating.

The Antichrist (an in-depth look in Scripture)

Well, we've been hearing about this for a long time about who is the Antichrist and where will he come from. In every Presidential election in America, people seem to think one of the candidates will be the Antichrist but they are absolutely wrong and have not read their Bible (or unless there happens to be one who is from the area that I will mention). According to the Bible, he will not come out of America.....but Assyria (which can be a reference to modern day Syria or possibly northern Iraq and stretching to the northern part of Africa). In the book of Isaiah, he refers to destroying an 'Assyrian' when God sets up His kingdom on earth (read Isaiah 10:5, 10:12, and 14:25).

It's interesting about chapter 14 in Isaiah because it first talks about how Lucifer was cast out of heaven in verses 12-17. Then it goes on to talk about the 'Assyrian' in verse 25 which the Antichrist (Satan in flesh just as Jesus was God in flesh described in 1 Timothy 3:16) will be destroyed. It also mentions about the prophecy of Christ destroying an 'Assyrian' in Micah 5:5-6 at His second coming. But it gets even more interesting when we read more information about the Antichrist in Daniel 11:37 and understand that the beginning of Daniel 11 describes history that has already been fulfilled until it reaches the latter part of the chapter. Also note that the term "antichrist" isn't found until the New Testament but it's referring to the same individual.

Daniel 11:37 says 'he will not regard the God of his fathers' which is an Old Testament way of referring to him as being Jewish. Now I understand that needs an explanation and I will give it to you. What this means is that he will have a Jewish origin but come out of the land of Syria. You must understand that the Jews won't except him to begin with unless he is a Jew. By the way, this is not an insult to Jews. This is just pointing out that Satan is a counterfeit and he tries to copy God. In this case, Satan will try to use a Jewish person as the Antichrist just as Jesus Christ was a Jew and Satan is just trying to mimic Him. Also notice in Daniel 11:37 that he will not have 'the desire of women.'

Now you can guess all you want, but it's amazing to think about the rise of homosexuality today. We know from reading 1 John 4:3 that the 'spirit of antichrist' is already in the world before he actually shows up. Could it be that he doesn't desire women because he is homosexual? It's a possibility! I now want to focus on WHO is the Antichrist? Well, I could be wrong but with an open mind and an open Bible, I think Jesus told us who it was when He prayed in John 17:12. He was praying for the disciples (later for all believers in verse 20) but in verse 12 he mentioned about the disciples that 'none of them is lost, but the SON OF PERDITION.'

He was referring to Judas Iscariot as the 'son of perdition' and this is important because the apostle Paul in 2 Thessalonians 2:3 referred to the Antichrist as the 'son of perdition.' So, it's a possibility that the Antichrist could be a resurrected Judas Iscariot and check this out before you think this sounds weird. In Acts 1:25, it says that after Judas died that he 'went to his own place.' Now, fast forward to Revelation 11:7 where it says 'the beast ascendeth out of the bottomless pit.' How did the 'beast' get there to begin with? Maybe when Judas (who is probably the beast a.k.a. 'Antichrist') went to 'his own place.'

Just something to think about and keep in mind that the Bible says we will have many antichrists before the real one appears. This is found in 1 John 2:18 which says, "LITTLE CHILDREN, IT IS THE LAST TIME: AND AS YE HAVE HEARD THAT ANTICHRIST SHALL COME, EVEN NOW ARE THERE MANY ANTICHRISTS; WHEREFORE WE KNOW THAT IT IS THE LAST TIME." We have already seen many 'antichrists' in history and they are just paving the way for the REAL one to show up!

Who's the 'Wonder Woman' in Revelation 12?

Okay, I was debating whether to start with this or not but decided to go ahead and begin this series with describing the 'personages' in Revelation. In Chapter 12, I refer to this as the 'Wonder Woman' of the Bible. You will find where I'm coming from by reading Revelation 12:1, "And there appeared a great WONDER in heaven; a WOMAN clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars."

I don't have to tell you about all the interpretations you may or have already heard concerning this. As I said before, you will find that the Bible interprets itself (remember 2 Peter 1:20). And one of the most fascinating things you will discover is we must go the very BEGINNING of the Bible to understand the END. But first, let me go ahead and tell you who this 'Wonder Woman' is. She is the nation of ISRAEL! Turn in your Bible to Genesis 37:9. In this verse, Joseph had a dream of "the SUN and MOON and the ELEVEN STARS" making obeisance to him (Joseph would have made up the twelfth star). This was a prophecy of one day that his brothers will bow down to him which is a long story to get into and would get off-topic.

When Joseph told this dream to his father in Genesis 37:10, his father (Jacob, who was named 'Israel' by God in Genesis 32:28) revealed the sun and moon as himself and his wife (Joseph's parents) and the stars represented Joseph's brethren. You see the comparisons with Revelation 12:1 with the sun and moon and the twelve stars (of course, representing the twelve tribes of Israel). The following verses in Revelation 12 show how Satan (described as a 'great red dragon' in verse 3) persecuted the 'woman' for giving birth to a man child who was to rule all the nations (verse 5) which is a picture of Jesus Christ.

But then it gives how the 'woman' (Israel) will flee into the wilderness which takes place during the middle of the 7 year tribulation period that started in Revelation 6. It gives the number of days where she will be preserved in verse 6 and the days are approximately three and a half years (the last half of 7 years). This goes along with the future warning Jesus gave the Jews when this happens in Matthew 24:16-21. I could go on forever describing this chapter but I'll let you chew on this for a while. Oh, there's something else I want to leave you with. You may notice in verse 14 that the 'woman' (Israel) was given 'two wings of a great eagle' that assisted her to go into hiding and be nourished.

Could this 'great eagle' represent a nation (such as America) who goes by that symbol? Well, who knows and but I do know this isn't the first time God used 'eagles wings' as a reference to deliver them. God used that symbolism to how he delivered Israel out of Egypt in Exodus 19:4 and I know America didn't exist at that time. I'll leave that subject to the 'spiritual daredevils.'

Stay Tuned....my studies on the Book of Revelation

I just want to announce that I'll be posting some interesting studies on the Book of Revelation. You will learn how the Bible actually commentates itself since "no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation" (2 Peter 1:20). You will find that you will learn about other books of the Bible in these studies and you just may be surprised what has been in God's Word all this time. Be sure to let any others know about this page if they would be interested. Oh, and so far, I have no followers yet on this blog site. Hmmmm....who will be the first?

How old is the Earth?

(Note: I know I have posted this before on other sites on the web, but since I've been talking about the relationship with Earth and the Scriptures I thought I'd share it again here).

So, how old is the earth? And what about all these claims of the Earth being millions and billions of years old? Well, the answer is shocking and quite simple. WE'VE BEEN LIED TO! The dating methods that are used to measure how old the planet are proven false but are still presented as "fact." According to Science magazine (Volume 141, 1963, page 634), a living mollusk was tested with the radiometric method Carbon-14 and the reading said it was DEAD for 3,000 years while it was STILL ALIVE! Carbon-14 is still used today to measure how old rocks are and such.

Also, another method that is used is Potassium Argon and this has also been proven inaccurate as well. In the Journal of Geophysical Research (Volume 73, July 15 1968, page 4601), lava rocks were tested by Potassium Argon from a volcano that erupted and it's reading showed that it erupted 3 billion years ago. But IT ACTUALLY ERUPTED IN 1801! This shows that the earth is around thousands of years old instead of billions. (Oh, and you have a question about 'dinosaurs' check out Job 41. It's name is Leviathan).

One thing that is debatable among Christians was how long is a 'day' in the six days of creation? Was it six literal days? The word 'day' is used different ways in Scripture. Sometimes referring to a long period, such as a thousand years in 2 Peter 3:8 and other times it refers to a 24 hour cycle. Genesis 1 makes it clear that it's referring to 24 hour days because it mentions concerning each day 'the evening and the morning' was such and such day (read Genesis 1:5, 8, 13, 19, 23, 31).

It's time to avoid 'oppositions of science FALSELY so called!' (1 Timothy 6:20)

The Bible already taught the Earth was ROUND!

If you're a Bible-believer, undoubtedly you have been referred to as a 'flat-earther' sometime or another. This comes from people who have never read the Bible themselves and by blind faith take the words of the average university professor. I always point out concerning this subject that if you were to lock someone for years in a room only with a Bible for them to read, they would come out knowing the Earth is ROUND instead of flat. How is this possible?

Because they would have read Isaiah 40 which is a chapter that describes how God is incomparable to man. In this chapter you would come across verse 22 which reads, "It is he (God) that sitteth upon the CIRCLE of the Earth, and the inhabitants are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in" (Isaiah 40:22). You notice I point out the word 'CIRCLE' in that passage. Not only does this point to the roundness of the Earth, but also the Hebrew word used for 'circle' in that verse is 'chuwg' which refers to a sphere or a ball.

Remember, this is long before Columbus sailed the ocean blue in 1492 and not to mention before the first satellite ever launched into space. This is no surprise since God already showed us that the stars are innumerable in Genesis 15:5 and Jeremiah 33:22 before Galileo invented the telescope. Not to mention revealing the Earth hangs upon nothing in Job 26:7 which is totally contrary to the belief of a giant man holding it upon his shoulders and the Hindu belief that it was held up by giant turtles.

Also check out Luke 17:34-36 where Jesus describes different time zones around the Earth when He returns. It mentions two in a bed which is nighttime, two women grinding (at the mill as described in Matthew 24:41) which is around morning, and two in a field which would be daytime. Quite interesting isn't it?!
